Abstract: The sirtuins (SIRTs) are a family of NAD+ dependent lysine deacetylases. SIRTs are involved in a variety of physiological processes related to aging, such as oxidative stress, apoptosis and inflammation. As a kind of diseases closely related to aging, neurodegenerative diseases are also related to SIRTs. This article mainly reviews the research on the role and mechanism of SIRTs in the occurrence and development of neurodegenerative diseases in recent years.
Key words: sirtuins, acetylation, neurodegenerative diseases, action mechanism
